The Minister of Posts and Communications opened a memorial in honor of the 175th anniversary of the postal box in Russia
On April 21, 2023, in Voronezh, Russia, the world's first monument to the postal box with augmented reality was installed, and the postal museum was opened. This remarkable event also marked the release of the postal AR kit, commemorating the 175th anniversary of the postal box in Russia.
At the grand opening ceremony of the AR monument, Valery Sushkov, the Minister of Posts and Communications of the Kingdom of North Barchant, had the honor of cutting the ribbon. Sushkov, an esteemed researcher-traveler, mail historian, and Chief Postmaster General of the International Postal Community, is also the author of the idea behind this groundbreaking monument. He is the head of the POSTVENTURE & Postal Adventure Project and the author of the innovative concept of "philatourism" in world tourism practice.
As per Sushkov's vision, every day at noon, the receptionist-postmaster of the Yamskaya Hotel museum retrieves letters from the monument's mailbox. With a unique key, the postmaster opens the lock in a solemn atmosphere. At this moment, hotel guests and tourists can capture a distinctive photo or selfie while dropping their messages into one of the four themed boards of delivery. All the correspondence, including letters and postcards, from this special collection will be registered in a book at the Yamskaya postal museum and then sent by the Russian Post to various corners of the world.
Legend has it that all correspondence sent through the mailbox-monument brings forth cherished wishes. Once a week, visitors of the Yamskaya Hotel and those who sent AR envelopes or AR postcards with special drawings and unique messages from Bottle, Aerostat, Bee, Sea, Space, and other extraordinary postal deliveries are eligible to win through the "POSTVENTURE & Postal Adventure" Project. The lucky winner receives this exceptional collection of mail, adding an extra touch of magic to their experience.
